Cricket News for 2015

Andy Sugarman (Chairman Cricket) and Ian Glassington (VC Cricket) and Danny Rogers (Club Manager), meeting with Janet Tobin at The Royal Marsden hospital to present a cheque for £855 which was raised at the ‘Lashings’ cricket match held at Purley CC last season.

Look out for information relating to the visit of the Bunbury Charity Team who we are hosting this season on Sunday August 9th.

We have some exciting news concerning our second ground for the 2015 season.

For the past 3 years we have been playing at the Croygas ground in Wallington. This facility has not lived up to our expectations, and was not of the quality that we required.

I am very happy to announce that we have secured the use of the change foundation ground in Plough Lane Wallington for the foreseeable future. This is a significant step forward for Purley cc, as we have the best 1st team ground in the county, and wanted to provide something as close as possible for our 3rd and 4th teams, as well as our colts and ladies when needed.

This ground has an electric scoreboard, roll on / off covers, sightscreens, and is even maintained by the same Groundsmen team that look after The Ridge.

This is as close to the quality of our home ground as we could possibly have hoped for in the area.  It gives us the ground our players deserve and will greatly increase the quality of the cricketers coming through from those teams.

We will also be focusing on increasing the number of female cricketers at all age groups at our club. We will be strengthening our links with the local schools, looking to recruit from within, as there are many daughters and girlfriends of current colts and seniors who might wish to play, and holding free coaching sessions both indoors and out.

This will be helped by the fact that the senior ladies will be playing in a league where the opposition are more local, and the games shorter.  Both of which were major factors hindering the growth of ladies cricket.

Senior men’s nets commence on Thursday January 29th at Whitgift School starting at 9pm, for 1 hour.  The nets are booked for 10 weeks.  Post-Christmas colt’s nets will be booked at Woodcote high school in the next week or so and I will pass on the details when I have them.

There is a lot to look forward to next season. Please come down and have a look at our wonderful facilities, quality coaching programme and our young and vibrant club.
