Purley pipped at the post in dramatic final

Purley 39   Imagine8 53

PURLEY fell at the final hurdle of the Netball UK Challenge Plate competition when they lost out to Imagines8 at the University of Bath's Sports Village last weekend.

Purley's towering Barbara  Taylor caused problems for the Warrington based side from the start, latching onto numerous looped passes close to the post for easy scoring opportunities.

Meanwhile, captain Alison Neall and Helen Carmichael made things difficult for the opposition shooters with some determined defending. However, the northern side soon put the pressure onto the feed into the Purley circle, forcing errors, and increased their court defence to good effect.

But Purley kept in touch despite being unable to regain possession at crucial moments.

It ended a superb cup run for Purley. Having lost a hard-fought game against Alfa Netball Club 62-49 in the first round of the Challenge Cup itself, the Surrey side battled through four rounds to earn their place at Bath.
